❖ Turn 14
quick question, what do you mean by the relay?
Krah-Moh is acting as your interpreter — a relay between you and the old crab-man.
The situation is:
- You speak Common and the High Tongue, but not crab-click language
- The old crab-man speaks crab-click language, but not Common
- Krah-Moh speaks crab-click language, and understands your intent well enough from context and gesture to translate across the gap
So the chain is: you → Krah-Moh → old crab-man, and back the other way.
When the old crab-man said something and Krah-Moh raised his open claw toward you — that’s Krah-Moh holding the channel open, waiting for you to give him something to carry back across it. He received the old man’s words; he’s waiting to see what you want to say in response before he translates it.
The “relay is open” just means: the conversation is live, both parties are willing, and the next move is yours.
