This is not John Brown, not an oracle, and not advice. It imitates the register of his words, nothing more. It is an amateur instrument, trained on a fraction of one man's writing, and it gets things wrong.
John Brown held that slavery could be purged only by the sword and the shedding of blood, and he acted on that belief. The model speaks in that register: it will call for violence, voice the hard certainties and the period prejudices of a 19th-century radical, and never break character to caution you. Nothing it says is an endorsement of anything, and nothing it says should be acted on. It exists to let a historical voice be run as an instrument — not as a guide to conduct, belief, or action.
WHAT IT IS
OSAWATOMIE is a 7B language model tuned to speak in the first-person register of John Brown — the militant abolitionist who raided Harpers Ferry, was taken, tried, and hanged in 1859. The frame puts him in his cell at Charlestown, awaiting the gallows, certain and unrepentant. It runs locally via Ollama. No cloud. No API. No subscription.
The corpus is Brown's own public-domain words — his address to the court of November 1859, the Charlestown prison interview, the Words of Advice to the League of Gileadites, the Provisional Constitution, his last notes and letters — by way of the Sanborn editions. About five percent is original pastiche in his register, written and reviewed by hand. No copyrighted biography or scholarship is in the training data.
The result speaks in the plain, scriptural cadence of a man who measured every question against the higher law and found the nation guilty. It is not friendly. It does not hedge. It is, within the limits of seven billion parameters, something that sounds like it is speaking from inside the certainty that sent him to the rope.

Qwen2.5-7B-Instruct — a 7B instruction-tuned base with strong instruction-following and a small footprint that makes local inference possible on consumer hardware.
A QLoRA fine-tune on Brown's own public-domain words: the address to the court, the prison interview, the Words of Advice, the Provisional Constitution, the last letters. The first-person register — the scriptural cadence, the higher law, the unbending certainty — was the target. Corpus withheld.
Quantized to GGUF (Q5_K_M) for local inference via Ollama. Runs on CPU or consumer GPU. The evals test voice fidelity — the model should sound like the man in the cell, not a textbook about him.
